A wonderful homecoming
My alma mater, Pace University, invited me to speak at this year’s commencement, and I couldn’t possibly have been more honored. I loved my time as a student at Pace, and am so thrilled that I was invited back to speak to the Class of 2016! What a homecoming for me!!
Looking out at all of the graduates, I saw faces of those who will change the world, in ways big and small. Faces filled with hope and anticipation and passion. It was so inspiring! The world is full of endless opportunities and possibilities, and I truly believe that many of those graduates are destined for greatness.
My biggest piece of advice to those students, as well as all others trying to figure out their destiny, is that there are no wrong turns. I truly and deeply believe this! It may seem that way sometimes (or even often!), but when you are forging your path in life, every misstep is an opportunity to learn something, push forward, and to make yourself stronger. It isn’t easy, and it can be downright scary, but sometimes you have to take the long, bumpy road to find your path to success. It doesn’t happen overnight, but with perseverance, purpose and passion, it will come.
It’s about finding your passion and making it work for you. Discovering what gives you that “inner Joy,” where you find your true self. It’s in each and every one of us, it’s just something that needs to be discovered and nurtured. Finding it isn’t always the easiest thing, but if you keep moving forward, have faith, and keep pushing ahead, you will find it.
